Pregnancy and cold medicine

So I've been on hold with my Dr office for almost an hour now with 5 calls still ahead of me and I'm getting pretty irritated. So I'm going to ask you ladies this question! 2 days ago I started to feel a cold coming on so I drank some emergenC hoping that would kind of help it from getting worse. Normally I would just drink water and get rest but I'm 22 weeks Pregnant and I've never been more miserable I've tried sitting in the bathroom with the hot shower running to see if the steam would help it didn't. Is there any cold or cough medicine I can take that's safe?? I have the worst cough it hurts so bad...is there anything safe?
