Almost 5 months HELP!!!

He will play on his gem, walker or swing but not for long. I honestly don't know what to do with my own son. He does tummy time and he is not a big fan. I sing him songs and sometimes we watch cartoons but they never hold his interest long nothing does and its like I got to find something else to do because he starts to throw a fit. His dad work alot and help when he can but his dad also believes in just letting him cry and say i spoil him thats why he like that? Help what can really keep his interest so I can accomplish something or just have a little time? What cartoons are kids watching these days?
