so confused 😔

So I've been seeing this guy for about 8 months. We were officially boyfriend and girlfriend up until sometime in May. We broke things off for complicated reasons. But we got back together but never made it official. We started having sex and we even say "I love you" to each other on a daily basis. I may be over thinking this but I'm just so confused about where we are. And whenever I ask him about it he says he cares for me and wants to be with me. This is my first real relationship. I'm 22 and he's 25. Should I just be straight forward with him?
