Flu shots?

FTM here. At my daughter's 6 month appt her doctor mentioned to me they'll be giving flu shots in October. He told me to call to set up an appt for her, that it"ll be quick and that it"ll be two shots. I brought it up casually to my boyfriend's dad the next day. He told me that I shouldn't do it because she didn't need it. We didn't talk about more after that but I consider him a smart man. I've only done a little bit of research so I'm still not sure what to do. Any advice I could receive? Did you or would you give your child the flu shot around this age?

As a nurse I don't get it, nor do I have my children get the flu shot. The flu shot is ONLY for the strains they feel are going to be the most prevelent that year. They have been wrong many times, forcing them to reformulate a new one and everyone having to get another shot. Even THEN it won't 100% protect you. Because it is constantly reformulated every year, there is no way to really prove it is safe and that it won't cause issues down the road. Our bodies were created to fight off germs, so I would rather let my body fight it off. The only people in my opinion that should get a flu shot are the elderly, or immune compromised (cancer, HIV etc). Maybe if your infant is in a daycare setting where he/she would be at increased risk of exposure to the flu then it would be warranted. My daughter was home with me, and her risk was low, so there was no point in her getting a flu shot.

I've never been fond of flu shots. Both me and my mom always end up sick after the shot. We seem to avoid it dur8ng the years we don't get it, that'd why I refused it the day I got my TDAP shot. 
I'm 100% all for getting their shots but I feel like the flu is really the only one you can kinda be lenient on. The rest I feel are very important. (Just to clarify, before this turns into a huge debate on vaccinations)

The flu vaccine is inactive so you can't get the flu from it. Also, the flu can be deadly for infants and it's highly contagious.

I don't have the flu shot bc my mom got it and after that she was always sick. So she never wanted it again. So I'm not going to do the flu shot for the baby.

A lot of the bad stuff being spread about the flu shot is misinformation. Some say the inject you with the virus. Which is partly true, but it's not a live version of it. So it will not give you the flu. Some say they got sick. I'm not doubting they did. But it was either not the flu, or was another strain of it. The shot protects against the most common strain for the year it's given (that's why it's an annual shot). So you can still get the flu, it just reduces the risk. In addition, a lot of people mistake bad colds for the flu. I'd get it. If one is offered for my baby she's getting it. It reduces the risk, and the flu can get bad real fast in babies

I've worked in a medical office and gotten the flu shot for the last 9 years and never had influenza. Influenza is not the same as a stomach bug. My son had his first at 6 months, it is a divided dose. He will get it again in a few weeks.

My husband and I get the flu shot every year. I mean it only protects you against the most commons strain of flu from the previous year, and there are many strains of it. But we still get it to be as safe as possible. Our daughter will be getting it too. The flu can end up deadly and if there's a chance I can protect her, I will.
