bf and I are long distance. is it wrong to intentionally choose not sexy clothes when shopping because of the mindset "if he can't see me in it, no one should."

I would wear what I wanted if it made me feel sexy. Sure you're being a good girlfriend but you should wear what makes you feel hot even when he isn't around. If you're not sleeping with other guys or flirting I don't see the harm. 
He likes you for who you are and if you have to change that it's not a good sign

I think you can wear things that are sexy without being revealing, does that make sense? Maybe save the revealing stuff for when you see him😉
