How long is too long to wait for a proposal?

I am 20, he is 24. We have been together for 2 years, lived together for 1 year. We both just started college again, he keeps saying "oh I want to wait until we are done with school" which is understandable. Then he goes on saying "oh well if things are going well why do we need to change it with marriage?" I don't know if I've gotten to the point to where I'm being taken for granted and wasting my time.

If you're willing to spend your life with him if he proposes, why are you not willing if he doesn't? You either love him and can't imagine you're life without him or he's not the one for you.
That being said, I spent 8 years with my ex with no proposal. I was willing to forgo marriage to be with him for it to all end. I'm now married to an amazing man and know how much better life is with him than my ex. So it is up to you about it really.

I just really don't believe in putting a time limit on this kind of thing. If you love him and want a life together a ring should not be the deal breaker. BUT if it seriously is that big of a deal to you and will put you off your relationship you need to communicate that to him so he knows. Best of luck to you.

I have been with my partner for 4 years (lived together exclusively for 3) and am due to have his baby in the next few weeks. He's just started a teaching job and I am in the last year of my university degree. I know he'll propose when he's ready, and when he does it will be a lot more special because it hasn't been expected of him. Just go with it. As long as you are happy marriage can come along at any time x

You both are very young and although 2 years may seem like a long time to you, there is a lot more that you can learn about your significant other. Marriage is a huge step.. and at 20 & 24 years old? That's a massive decision to make, to dedicate the rest of your life to someone you've only been with for 2 years, esp. given the short time you've been given on this earth thus far.

If marriage is the only thing on your mind, you should either communicate to your partner how important it is to you, or try to reevaluate the things that matter to you in life.

Don't ever stay in a relationship just because you're expecting a marriage proposal - stay because you love that person, enjoy your time spent together, and can see them in your future. And if you have a time limit on how long you'll wait for a ring, then I don't think you should be with that person from the get go. Sounds to me like a lazy excuse to get out of a relationship that has bored you.

There is no time line. My friend and her boyfriend have been together for 11 years, he's 34 and she's 29; they're not engaged and won't be any time soon. She's okay with that! My husband and I got engaged after 4 years and I was 30, he was 31. 
My coworker on the other hand broke up with  her boyfriend of over 10 years and she's older then me (I'm 33)  because she realized he wasn't ready to get married any time soon and that's something she wanted. 
The length of your relationship and your age should not determine when you should be engaged and if you realize it's that important you to maybe you need to leave if he's not on the same page as you.

Depends on the relationship. Ultimatums rarely succeed. Just be sure to communicate your feelings as much as possible and encourage him to do the same.

My fiancé and I were together for 5-6 years before he proposed, living together for 4-5 years. He had intentions in proposing 2-3 times prior but ended up getting laid off from the jobs at the time. You boyfriend will propose when he's ready, you've only been together 2 years, sometimes waiting longer is better.

We were together for 3 almost 4 years and living together for about 6 months when we got engaged. We have friends that have been together for 7 years just bought a house together in February are 33 and 32 years old and are still not engaged. Now we definitely feel she's been dragged along but I don't think 2 years together is unreasonable to not be engaged plus you both are still young.
