OB/GYN advice?

Question

I'm 13 and I've had my period since I was 10. It's never been very frequent and I've always been told my cycle just hadn't regularized yet. Sometimes I'll go a few months without it coming, but I've never had sex, so I know I'm not pregnant. When it does come, it's very heavy and i get really bad cramps, so my mom has made an appointment to get me put on birth control pills. I've never been to the obgyn so I was wondering if anyone on here could give me an idea of what it's like? Any advice?

Hey, don't worry. I was about 11 when I went to the OBGYN the first time. I had cramps so bad I couldn't walk and I wanted to vomit. The pill really helps. It took away the cramps, made it perfectly monthly, lighter flow, and really helped calm down PMS week. Off the pill for about three years now and it's still nowhere near as whacked up as it was before.

Be honest with your gynacologist about all symtoms, though if your mom is anything like mine was, she'll do the talking for you.

By a doctor that women under 15 should
Not be on the birth control pill
As it affects bone growth. Of course double check with the OB gyn. I don't know your personal situation or health.

Hey girl that's happened to me when I started my period. I was 8 when I started mine and it would be like a murder scene and lots of cramps.I had to go see an OBGYN and they would just do an ultrasound to check you ovaries cause I ended up having little tumors inside. Don't be worried if they tell you this it is pretty normal and common and does not mean you have cancer. I highly recommend especially if you are a virgin to not get a Pap smear because it hurts since you're really young.

Okay this is how it always went for me: check in, they might get your height weight and may take some blood. They might take a urine sample to test for stds, part of procedure. They will do a breast exam and a pap smear its super quick with a long q tip its really nothing to be afraid of then youll usually sit down and talk to the dr tell her whats going on with your body and she will answer all your wuestions like discussing the best birth control for you. Dont let people scare you its just like going to your annual dentist visit piece of cake.

I never understood the whole "my period is heavy I get awful cramps, I'll get birth control" that I was never an option with us..
We knew birth control was for sex.. Although we weren't going to be having any we also knew that wouldn't be a solution as there were other remedies our grandmas and aunts have all passed down.. 
I bleed extremely heavy. I was just told better out than in because blood clots collect if it's light.

Honestly it's not as embarrassing as you would think.

You'd go in and just talk about yourself, your medical history, any medications you may be on, and what your symptoms are.

It's normal for periods to be irregular and heavy at a young age but your doctor will use their own independent judgement and decide what's best for you. If they decide on a pill, they will talk you through what it does, when to take it, what improvements you should see, etc.

For your age, and no sexual activity, it's unlikely they will need to do a pelvic exam or ultrasound. Unless they feel your symptoms warrant that. They have extensive training in medicine so trust that they would only subject you to tests if they believed it was necessary.

If they do a pelvic exam, it's not too bad. You just lay on your back, as they slide a small gadget called a speculum to open you up a slight bit. It shouldn't hurt, just feel strange, do a swab, and take the speculum out. Shouldn't last more than a minute. I highly doubt they will at your age, but don't be alarmed if they do. You don't need to prepare, or shave or do anything other than lie on your back and relax.
