belly sleeping?

My daughter hates her back and will not sleep. Is it really that bad to out her on her belly to sleep??? Ugh 😓 she's 4 weeks old.

I'm going to be honest with you, my daughter came out of the womb hating sleeping on her back. She would scream bloody murder if I laid her on her back, noone in the house could sleep, including my toddler. One day when she was 2 weeks old, I put her on her belly for tummy time and she passed out and went to sleep, and slept for 3 hours (with me checking on her every 5-10 minutes of course). Ever since then, I let her sleep on her belly during the day for naps, I don't have to nerve to do it at night yet. I bed-share with her bc it makes nursing easier, and she sleeps on her side beside me. Sometimes at night she ends up rolling over on her belly to sleep, and she sleeps much longer on those nights. You have to do what is best for you and your entire family, if noone in my house could sleep that would not be good. Good luck to you, and make the best decision for your family. Just keep checking in on baby if it tummy sleeps.

It's up to you what risks you're willing to take. The cases of infant death significantly dropped after the back to sleep recommendation was made.

Tummy sleeping does have a higher risk of SIDS, but the recommendation actually used to be tummy sleeping - babies slept on their tummies all the time and most were fine. I let my son sleep on his tummy for naps and have since 4 weeks, and my sister actually has been letting her son sleep on his tummy since birth because he didn't sleep any other way.

I'm not a professional, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. You have to do what you think is best. Sometimes sleep is most important. If your daughter has good head control and can pick it up and turn it from side to side while on her tummy, I say go for it if it's what you want.

My son is the same way. He 4 weeks and has been sleeping on his stomach for 2 weeks now and sleeps through the night because of it. He is able to lift is head up just fine and move it around so I don't worry about it.

I'll just add that tummy sleeping does raise the risk for SIDS, but most of that extra danger is for babies who don't normally sleep on their tummies and then do one day. It's less dangerous if baby has been doing it for awhile.

It is recommended that baby sleeps on their back to reduce the risk of SIDS.. Do you swaddle her? Maybe try a slight incline. My baby slept so much better when he slept in the napper on his pack and play. Now hes too big so he just sleeps in the bassinet insert and we will hopefully transition him to his crib soon. He is 12 weeks.

Without the proper head control, yes it's very important to keep baby on its back. That being said my daughter has been sleeping on her belly since around 7 weeks, however she was flipping their on her own and can hold herself up on both of her arms as well as flip her head back and forth. 4 weeks is probably to young, in my opinion anyway. Try side sleeping, that's how my daughter slept before she started flipping on her stomach
