Does TriCare cover birth control?

My midwife asked me if I had any plans for birth control after I have the baby, so I've been doing research of the different options. Then I realized I didn't even know if it was covered under our insurance. I assumed it would be because it's a bit cheaper for the military to cover than a whole bunch of kiddos, but the hubby didn't know.

The birth control pill is covered, something long term like an IUD is not. Also, you may need to have it filled through express scripts mail order instead of your local pharmacy.

Tri care covers all kinds of different birth controls. I have gotten the pill, invading, Mirena and more and never payed a dime. They generally go over them all and give you your options during your 6 week postpartum check up

Sidenote: CVS currently carries the contract with Tricare to fill prescriptions for the covered cost (which is usually free.) Walgreens will not use Tricare coverage until the new year. I learned this when I had to pick up antibiotics $50 later 😬

Standard also covers a lot of birth control. I get mine filled on base and don't pay anything

If you have prime then they cover just about everything. Ask your doc, and if you're on standard then tricare will pay a percentage of it and the actual visit fee itself. The docs office should be able to give you a form saying how much it'll be and tricare will send you a letter in the mail telling you how much they paid and how much you're going to be billed

I used to get nuvaring with tricare prime coverage. I'd pick it up at a pharmacy on base and there wasn't a co-pay. If I wanted to I could fill the prescription at a cvs or something, but there would have been a slight copay.
