Dating advice?

Ok guys I haven't dated in over a year and the last time I had sex was just a fling. But now I've kinda got a crush on a guy at my college. Problem is everytime I finally work myself up to talk to him I chicken out. So far I haven't even been able to say hi and I would really like to get to know him and see if I would be interested in going out with him. Any advice on this one??
