Feeling Helpless

I feel so helpless at times my SO suffers from lupus and goes through periods of time when he doesn't want to be bothered with no one and some days he's in so much pain...I feel helpless like there is nothing I can do to help him and at times I feel like I'm being selfish for even wanting a baby and he have to already battle this illness...I just want to know if anyone can relate?
