paying rent while living at home still
What do you think is a normal or average amount to make your child pay for rent while they still live at home.
For me this is my circumstance. I'm 17, about 5 and half months away from being 18 (legal adult age in Australia) and I'll have to pay $80 a week in rent. Im still in school, finish school end of next year, and am expected to pay for everything except food in the house.
What would you make your teenager pay?
EDIT**** I hope people aren't thinking $80 a month is what I pay, I pay $80 a week, which leaves me $35 after I pay rent, which $26 goes towards transport to school, leaving me $9 to save a week, by the end of the month I have $36 which $30 goes towards credit, then I'm left $6 to leave off a month. Doesn't seem so great now does it
EDIT**** just a few notes to add for those here.
-my mum is making me pay because she can't afford to live without my money. She doesn't work, refuses to in fact, she's capable.
-I am not the first child she's used to benefit from
-I will not get any of this money back
-I am the only one in my house to clean, that includes my younger brother that without me would never get bathed
-I've had to receive an exemption at my school to only attend three days a week because I couldn't afford to go
-I am in year 11, so a whole year at least until I can go
-I have to save for my own car(seems fair) but she paid for my older sister who's an adult car
-I could very well leave, but obviously you need some kind of saving for that, and $6 a month to save doesn't get you far, especially when you need a car as well.
