Working during IVF?

Hi ladies. I will be Starting IVF next month and received a schedule from my Dr. It looks like at some point I will have daily appointments. I'm a nurse and have a crazy schedule. Did you take time off? My fellow nurses will understand how hard it is to change our schedules. Help! Any advice?

My visits where always at 730 am every second day for 30 minutes.  I am hoping my FET will be less visits.

The appointments are one thing, I was usually an early apt and in and out in 45 min or less. The Egg retrieval and transfer each need that day of couch rest. Those days are to be determined as your doctor sees how you're responding to the meds. I knew two to three days before at least so I could alert my boss and get coworkers to cover.

I'm not a nurse, but I told my boss what was going on and he was very supportive and happy to let me work around my schedule.

I start treatment next month as well and I am a nurse. My manager is aware of what I am doing and has been very supportive. I was planning to ask my nurse and RE. Sending you lots of baby dust!

Do you do bedside? What shift? If so, what type of unit? I am an RN also but currently work in Risk Management/Quality. I was able to make my appointments early enough to be able to get to work in time. Do you have a work buddy who can cover for you for an hour or so if you're able to make your appointment before work?

I am hopefully starting soon as well. I'm a teacher so it's not feasible for me to be late to work, and this issue has been stressing me out as well.  I am planning on talking to my principal about what's going on, and I have a coworker/friend who doesn't teach 1st period and is willing to cover for me for a few minutes if necessary. It doesn't sound like that's an option for you, but I'd definitely talk to your supervisor. Good luck to you!

I'm a nurse in an ICU so I feel your pain with the 12 hour shift. Honestly, I went PRN during my IVF cycle and just worked close to full time hours. I had more flexibility over my schedule that way. I knew that I would be doing IVF, so I changed over onto my husbands insurance. I know that's probably not an option for everyone, but I honestly don't know how I would have made it through the IVF cycle otherwise as a nurse with 12 hr shifts. You pretty much have to take off work the whole day when you have an appointment because our shifts are so long and my clinic didn't take appointments until 8 am. I also ended up overstimulated during my treatment and had OHSS and had to take off a week after Retrieval due to swelling in my abdomen and extreme pain. I just want to say good luck to you and I hope you can find a way to work around your schedule!

My doctor asked me not to work at all. I had appointments all over the place . And could not work around work, I didn't know for sure of my appointments until the day of my current appts

I would talk to your supervisor about it if you feel comfortable. They may have had someone else in this position before and have an idea of what worked before

The appointments are fairly quick and my clinic took appointments at 6:30am so I only had to miss work for my egg retrieval and 2 days for transfer. Good luck
