Old Fashioned In Memory
My grandmother passed away a couple of years ago from cancer. We were extremely close, and I miss her every day. I decided that I want to name my first daughter after her.
My conundrum is this: my grandmothers name was what a lot of people consider "old fashioned". Her name was Mary Ann. Now I love the name, and I don't see a problem with it, but I worry that as she will not understand the power of that name, she will feel uncomfortable with it.
I've been trying to think of variations on the name that are a little more modern but still hold the same sentiment. I've come up with Marian with a different middle name and Marley Ann.
What do you guys think? Should I try to modernize it, or keep Mary Ann as it is? I don't want my little girl to be embarrassed by her name like kids sometimes are. As she will never know what an incredible person her namesake was, I want it to be a name she can be proud of.
