how much folic acid to take?

So my fertility specialist has told me to take 5mg's of Folic Acid a day! Turns out I was only taking 1mg a day. What have you ladies been told? I'm due 11 May 2017 x

My prenatal has 800 mg folate and then I'm taking 3 G of folic acid

I'm sure it differs as you're seeing a specialist, but I am taking a prenatal multi and a b complex which has folic acid in it so I'm sure I'm getting plenty
