Did anyone else's pediatrician prescribe vitamin D for their newborn?

Thoughts? I feel weird giving him anything but breastmilk... I know he's a doctor and went to med school and such, but it feels wrong. My son isn't even a week old!

It's literally one drop of tasteless liquid once a day and can prevent things like Rickets. He's your child and it is your choice in the end, but with such a non-invasive, half second addition to your day that could prevent serious illness, why not do it? I just put the drop on my nipple before we nurse and she doesn't know the difference. No fuss at all.

Breastmilk tends to be low in vitamin d unless you're taking a supplement. Either make sure you get 10-20 min of outside time (the sun gives you vitamin d), take a supplement, or give baby supplement. Totally normal.

I take vitamin d supplements so I don't have to give drops. I don't have just anything against drops, but thought it would be easier this way. My pediatrician told me to continue my prenatal and take 3 additional vitamin d pills.

Doctors have been recommending breastfed babies to have the vitamin D drops for a long time. My mom remembers giving me it when I was a baby. It's kinda sweet and my daughter loves it.

Yes with both of mine I was told to give them vit D and with both I started to and then would never remember to do it. So they both have been breastfed (still breastfeeding the youngest) and are doing just fine without having any vit D
