Was it wrong?
I used to volunteer at a childcare center and we cared for kids anywhere between a few months to 5 years of age. Different rooms for different ages...you get the idea. I was in the infant room and we did a lot of "coaxing" the babies to start walking on their own. And there was one baby who was able to pull himself up on his own and walk around the classroom as long as he held onto the wall or the top of the play tables etc etc. So long story short, he walked on his own one day. He walked from one cabinet a few feet across the rug to a small shelf-- without anyone helping him. It was veryyy exciting and we all praised him for it but the teacher I was working with told me and another assistant teacher not to mention it to his mother when she came to pick him up. She said it's a very special experience to witness a baby walk for the first time, one every parent should experience on their own for the first time. So we never told his mother that he took his first steps that day.
And I don't know, something about it didn't sit right with me. I get that it could be very disappointing to the parent to miss their baby's first steps, but it felt kind of wrong keeping that huge milestone from them. I don't really know how I feel about it now that I look back on it. 😅 What do you guys think?
