complications with navel piercings?

Has anyone had any complications after taking out their belly button ring? I took mine out over a year ago but all of the sudden it started hurting. It's a similar feeling to having the ring caught on something.

No I haven't had that happen. Maybe you have a sensitivity to the ring you put in.

ALSO, make sure that when you do change the piercing, that you clean the barbell and the pierced area before putting it in.

I've had my belly button pierced since I was 16 and I've had it for 3 years. This has happened to me before. Belly buttons are a surface piercing and can get irritated a lot easier than a typical ear piercing. It can still get infected. Don't take it out. Your body is trying to heal itself and two things will happen. 1. The piercing will close. 2. If there happens to be an infection, the piercing will close and the infection will be trapped inside your body. 
Clean it with some mild soap once in the morning, and at night. You can also clean it with salt water (NOT table salt, use sea salt.) I'd use this as a step 2, AFTER you clean it with soap. Make sure you wash your hands before touching it, and try not to touch it unless you are touching it to clean it. 
You should see the irritation fade away after a few days or maybe even sooner. Best of luck and give me an update!😁
