help! pediatrician help!

As November nears I have started looking for pediatricians in my area. I was under the impression that it's a good thing to meet with the doctor ahead of time so I know whether we align in beliefs, and mesh in personality. However, after being on hold for 20 minutes with the pediatrician I really liked (online anyway..) they kinda giggled at me and said well we don't schedule anything or do meet and greets till the patient is actually born... I was annoyed, especially since I waited 20 minutes. 

I'm just wondering, is is normal to meet the doc before baby comes, or just go in blind? What have your experiences been like? FTM here, so I have no frame of reference fore peds around my area...
