prenatal vitamins?

Hey ladies. I just found out I am pregnant with my first a few days ago. People are already telling me to buy prenatal vitamins even before I go to the doctor's on Monday. How do I know what vitamins to get? What do I need to be looking for? Thanks!

Vitapearl is awesome. It is kind of a prescription so they take your insurance and stuff but you just go on their website and sign up and the vitamins are mailed to you every month. They're what my doctor had me get and they're great. Super small and gel capped so easy to swallow even during the morning sickness phase.

You should def start ASAP. Generally speaking theyre all really the same. One thing to look for it is added DHA. Surprisingly, most prenatals don't have this and it's really important for your baby's development. If you find you're having trouble keeping your prenatals down as some women do the gummy ones tend to work better in that situation. Your doctor offer you a prescription which you can take or not take. Those pills are the same thing they just tend to Cost Less. You'll be taking these for the duration of your pregnancy. Prenatal with DHA...I have tried equate and currently taking nature's bounty. They don't have a fishy aftertaste but you have to take them on a full stomach. I received a sample prenatal from the doc and I burped fish until lunch....nasty. Good luck and congrats!!

Definitely start prenatals ASAP (my doc told me that ideally you should be on them for at least 3 months before getting pregnant so I've actually been on them for years and will stay on them until I'm certain we are done having kids)
If you are wanting to get a prescription from your doc so that insurance will cover it I would just suggest buying the smallest bottle in the meantime (not sure if you can get small bottles or if they all come as a 9 month supply...?)
