Are you planning on breastfeeding?

I really want to Breastfeed, but am feeling really discouraged. Lots of my friends have tried unsuccessfully, saying it was too difficult or painful.... would love to know everyone's thoughts.

Respectfully, if it was painful after a few days still, they didn't have a good latch. Your milk let down can be sore, but once it's in you're good. I just didn't get to breastfeed long because my son wouldn't latch and I didn't have a good support system.

This is my first but my mom breastfed and so has a couple of my friends. It is going to be painful at first but look at it like this , the pros outweighs the cons and once u get the hang of it , it'll become second nature.

I breastfed my first two for a year each.  It does hurt in the beginning.  You get contractions each time you nurse for about a week.  They are good though because they help reduce blood clots and brings your uterus down to size.  In addition, your nipples will be sore, lasted about 3 weeks with me.  Get all the resources you can, read books, watch videos, go to classes and see a lactation cosultant if your worried.  But it is totally worth it, breast is best!

I thought it would come easy but the first 6 weeks were really tough. After that it was smooth sailing and I breastfed my son for 18 months until I got pregnant again.

I successfully breastfed my first for 9 months. I credit all the success with it to reading everything I possibly could about it and attending breastfeeding classes at the hospital we chose to give birth at. I also joined the breastfeeding mama talk (BFMT) face book page and that helped with my journey once she was here. Don't be scared to ask questions and make sure you understand correct latching! I had questions once my baby was here and was able to reach out to a la leche group leader on the internet and she was very helpful!! Good luck sweetie! It's so worth it.

Yes it is hard and painful, absolutely 100%. I watch moms struggle all the time but you can't just give up because it gets hard. Be determined, be tough, power through and you will be so thankful and proud you did.

It's always worth a try Hun then least you can say you tried ... it's not for everyone and some don't produce enough milk to feed baby but .. you never know till the day comes to try :) ... I fed my daughter for 4 weeks and it was so amazing knowing I was making her grow!! I'm planning to try for longer with this baby and hav bought an electric breast pump to try help for when I'm feeling blue or want to go out :)

I've heard some horror stories too. I think it's good to hear a cautionary tale or two, but I try to remind myself that, like everything else, I'll have my own experience. One of the best pieces of advice I received in the topic is to not let any struggles frustrate me because that will only make it worse. Best wishes!!!
