Chicken Pox Party?!

Question

So chicken pox parties are all the rage right now... im a FTM, not really sure if I want to purposely have my baby contract the chicken pox. Is it something everyone does and I'm just being overprotective?

Pox parties are only done if people don't want to just vaccinated for chickenpox instead. They were much more common before the vaccine became available.I'd rather get a vaccine than actual chickenpox. Chickenpox sucks. Also, The vaccine doesn't put you at risk for shingles later in life away actual chickenpox does.

When I was a kid the vaccine wasn't widely used so when my brother got chicken pox my mom made me hang out with him so I got it at the same time. That way she didn't need to miss more work. I wish the vaccine was around when I was a kid, I'm not looking forward to the possibility of shingles!

Just vaccinate your kids. Chicken pox suck. I had them when I was 3, before they had the vaccine for it. I remember how sick my mom and me got. It was awful 😕

I would skip the chicken pox party and get the vaccination for chicken pox so your child doesn't have to go through something miserable for no reason. Especially since once a person gets chicken pox they automatically have the shingles virus that may stay dormant, but 1 out 3 people get shingles when they're older and that is extremely painful and can be dangerous.

My son got the vaccine and my daughter will too. I don't know anyone who's had chicken pox in years now. Not since me and my cousin got it at the same time.

People say you won't get shingles if you get the shot- but the shot has only been around since the mid 90s so we really don't know yet. I think people are over vaccinated myself.

My niece got the chicken pox last year around 10mo and was just fine.

I definitely think getting a vaccine  would be better than your child getting sick. People only had parties before the vaccine was available or now for the people who don't vaccinate.

I have never heard of this before but it sounds pretty ridiculous. It seems easier to just get the damn vaccine lol. Chicken pox lasts for days/weeks, vaccine only takes a few seconds with way less side effects.

For those saying the chicken pox vaccine will prevent shingles, there is no proof that it will because it's been around for less than 20 years. Also, the vaccine puts a small amount of the chicken pox virus in the body, and if the presence of that virus is what can cause shingles in the future, wouldn't it stand to reason that it's entirely possible those who get the chicken pox vaccine will get shingles? There is an entirely separate vaccine against shingles.

Disclaimer:  I am NOT anti-vax, but I am still on the fence about when, if at all, I will have my LO vaccinated against the chicken pox.
