My MIL told me to return all baby clothes smaller than 9 months....

My MIL let me know that her first son only got in 9 month and older clothing. I bought a ton of clothing for newborns on. Should I take her advice and return them while I still can? If you have a similar experience please comment. Wondering how common this is!
