Do beauty pageants objectify women?

I wanted to know other people's opinions on beauty pageants for both adults and children. I personally do not like the whole idea of it. I think it puts a lot of stress on girls to be perfect in everyway possible which is just not realistic.  I feel I am more against it for children rather than grown women. Do you think it's a way of objectifying women and or children?  Why or why not? 
What kind of mindset do you give them when you raise them up competing in beauty pageants?

I have mixed thoughts on the subject. On one hand something about the whole thing makes me uncomfortable. Especially some of the creepy commentary on women's bodies.

On the other, some women seem to really love and feel empowered by them. I wouldn't consider it objectification in that case. I trust grown women to make their own decisions about entering.

I don't like the young children's competitions though, and I would never enter a child of mine in one.

I also have ethical concerns about pageants and scholarships, but that's a little off topic.

Let's keep them and add beauty pageants for men. I'd love to watch a male swimsuit competition, male eveningwear, men displaying their talents in dance, singing, or piano. And then if anyone claiming pageants don't objectify women balks at the concept of male pageants, let's see if they can explain why.

Yes. However, most of these women choose to do these pageants. That's no one else's fault but their own. I've never had any desire to be in one. (Not talking about kids BTW)

I don't really think they objectify people, no. But I'm not a fan of them. I've known a lot of girls who have gotten sucked into it. My best friend from junior high started pageants in like 7th or 8th grade and I got to the point where I couldn't handle her anymore. It was constant drama. So for me, it's not my thing at all. But I'm not against it either.

No I found them as a fun way to make new friends and feel pretty for a day. I thought it was nice to feel like a princess one day out of the year. I don't like how if you're married, 21, or have had kids you aren't allowed to join. That really bugs me.
