over baring partner

Since being pregnant my partner has become over baring, he's telling what I can and cannot do and has become really tight where money is concerned, he told me I can't buy Christmas presents for my family because we will need the money.... I'm only 8 weeks in and I get that we will need the money but it too early to buy anyway! I just feel like I'm being suffocated! Am I just being unfair to him or should I do something?
