Nate Parker is getting alot of buzz as of late, now that The Birth of a Nation is due to release tomorrow. Will you be supporting this movie in theaters considering his past rape charges? How do you feel about this news?

I will be supporting the movie because it tells a story of our history. Do I support what happened with him, NO. But I will support the spread of knowlegde.

I'm about to see it tonight. I heard about the rape charges but honestly that has nothing to do with this movie. I feel like it's just a distraction to try to get people to not support it. It's not just about slavery it's about an uprising so of course they want to try to discourage people from seeing it. I even read online people saying if you see this movie you support rape. Yeah ok 🙄

It's hard for me to line the pockets of someone who was a part of something so harmful. Whether he did it or not, he was still there and knew what the others were planning to do the girl. And now she's dead. Plus the movie is apparently super inaccurate which is annoying bc he made a big deal about how true the story was gonna be.

Yes I'm going to see it. I won't even pretend I've done the research to know exactly what happened with his case and definitely won't defend him. However it grinds all of my fears that out of all the movies I've seen him in the media just now decides to nail him to a stake. I have no option but to believe their is ulterior motive. I don't understand how someone can hold another's past against them without even knowing rather or not the facts of the case are true or false. Not one person on the forum was there. You don't have any real info besides what the media gave you. If you don't watch the movie, fine, but don't attack his character solely because of some shady info. Neither you nor I know him enough to do that. He is an amazing actor and that's as much about him that I need to know.
