Preferred an option (mainly a vent)

Em
I understand insurance only covers 2 days in the hospital but I would have appreciated being given an option for my baby to stay in and get treatment.
Since Malachi was a vacuum birth he had increased bilirubin. They were monitoring it and it went up. They brought in a phototherapy light and he was on it maybe half a day.
Then comes day 2 after delivery and they start forcing me out, saying insurance only covers two days. I was fine with that (as far as myself) but then the lactation consultant is looking at the nurse like are you crazy and asks, "why is he being discharged, he has jaundice?"
They set us up a next day appointment and his weight is already a pound less and he's getting more and more lethargic. The nurses and residents there are wondering whyhe was discharged and she sets us up a home visit.
Home health comes and sets up the light in our room but I just broke down seeing my babe like that. Once he started refusing to breastfeed we pretty much had it and brought him to the children's hospital. All I've done since he was born is skin to skin so it was a crusher to have to leave him in the lights and carry the light belt everywhere (that's hard when you're still learning which positions work best for you and baby to breastfeed). He's still in the lights here but it's a more controlled environment, stronger lights, and we're seeing him start to get his spunk back vs continuing to decline.
Basically we just wish we were given an option to leave him in the hospital and I get discharged instead of just being continuously asked when we were leaving and being reminded that insurance only covers 2 days postpartum, think of the babe.
