One one outbreak?

I was diagnosed about a year ago now with Genital HSV. Since then I've only had one outbreak. Is that normal? Sometimes I feel as if I have been misdiagnosed because a blood test wasn't done but a swab yest was? I went to a school doctor so he sees a lot of college students and I feel like he just assumed u was irresponsible. What also doesn't make sense is that the guy I contracted it from had cold sores and used his spit. Am I just being naiive?
