advice please

I'm really looking into getting some form of contraception, I was on the pill a long time before having a baby and it was perfect but since having a baby my body doesn't agree with hormones so my doctor advised me to get the copper coil, heard a lot of horror stories about them, if you have it or had it can you tell me your exsperince on it please?
