Nipple shield! Help!

Okay soooo when I had baby Everly she wasn't able to latch very well. My left nipple is also flat so that was always just completely impossible with her so my lactation consultant gave me the nipple shield and it worked GREAT but she's a month old now and I really hate having to use it. Now that she's used it enough I no longer have a flat nipple either so I don't see why she wouldn't be able to latch but when I try briefly she never does and she gets frustrated so I just give her the shield back. Anybody have some advice on how to ween her off of it? I am desperate!
