Continue or Abort?

Question

If you found out you were going to have a child with spinal bifida, down syndrome, or some other illness...would you continue? Could you bring a person into life a limitations and dependability? Or would you spare the heartbreak?

Having a 28 year old sister with downs syndrome I can tell you right now it is not a reason to abort. And giving a special needs child up for adoption is very sad to because their are limited homes. Many DS people are very smart, work, and enjoy many hobbies. They are some limitations and develop at a different pace but this dowsnt make their less worth any less than anyone elses. My sister has a fuller schedule and better social life than any adult I've ever met.

As much as I would love to keep if that was my situation, I would abort. I know I couldn't handle raising a kid with a severe illness, I don't have the mental or emotional strength to do so and my fiancé is in the navy so he couldn't be there to help as much as need be. I also don't think I could give the kid the life he/she would deserve. So in my case, I would abort. I feel like that would be the best option for me and for the baby's sake.

They said my youngest was going to have some problems and thought she might have down syndrome I told him I didn't care she was born three months premature and the only issue had what it took her until she was one to learn how to walk she spoke late and she learns a little slower than others but she is perfectly fine 100% healthy and you would never know that she had that diagnosis.

Personally I would abort as the child would permanently need someone to look after them. What would they do after their parents are there for them anymore? They would have no one to support them and they wouldn't be able to take care of themselves properly

It would depend on the specific illness and severity. There have been a lot of improvements in quality of life for the disabled, so a blanket diagnosis wouldn't necessarily be enough to make a decision.

It is a fact that often those tests give false positives - a doctor will tell you that. Women tell stories all the time where they were told one thing, and their baby had zero deficits at birth. Regardless, personally my husband and I would absolutely keep the little miracle that God honored us with!

When my mum was pregnant with me I came back as high risk for DS,if she'd gotten an abortion I wouldn't be here having my little boy 23 years on!

I would keep. I would keep my baby and get my baby in to therapy for me and for the baby so we can help the baby reach its maximum potential. I have a autistic child and spent years in therapy with her and while there there where plenty of downs kids and others n there is so much therapy out there to help them. I would not abort just bc my baby would b special needs.

It all depends on circumstances. Quality of life is something I would consider. If my baby would be in constant pain and in the hospital for the entirety of their short life, I'd talk to my husband and consider it. If our baby had Down syndrome I wouldn't because it's a manageable condition that my child could have quality of life with. Like I said, it all depends on specific circumstances.

i found out at my 20 week scan last year october 2015 that my baby girl had the worst case of spina bifida that there is, she basically had no spine, would never be able to walk, never know when she needed the toilet etc along with other difficulties. we decided to end our pregancy as this would be no life for her, i would rather live with the pain of doing that than let her live a life with a whole lot more pain. i delivered her at 23 weeks. a heartbreaking decision, but for us and her, we felt it was the right one. fly high my precious Lilly ❤️
