what's going on?

This guy, that I'm basically f***ing, I've known him for awhile and yes we are friends and have had sex before. Anyway, last night at a party he was ALL over me, caressing and kissing and what not and some guy walked up to him, when I was not around, and asked him if we were dating, he said no. Then the same guy asked him if we were just FWB and he said he hesitated. I'm not getting my hopes up, I just enjoy having sex with him, but what could it mean to him? I've asked him before if he just sees me as a piece of ass and got angry/offended/hurt that I even asked him that. So...what's going on? Help please!!!
