My husband and I were both big babies (I was 10+ lbs and he was nearly 10lbs!) I've been told that most people don't need a lot of NB sized clothes regardless, but with our baby having the potential to be very big I have only bought about 5 outfits in NB size. I have 3 plain white long-sleeved onesies, 2 pair of little stretchy legging type pants to go over the bottom of those, and 2 snap up long sleeve onesies with pants. Nearly all of our other stuff is 0-3 months size, and we have plenty of that.
