so say you get pregnant even though you're on birth control, if you didn't know you got pregnant and you continued to take the birth control would it cause a miscarriage?

Depending on the type of birth control yes. To much of one hormone or another could cause a miscarriage.

I'm not sure now how it would work. But my grandma having 5 kids already and going through a divorce ended up pregnant,  her doctor prescribed her birth control to miscarry. It worked, sadly, that's something I'm sure she probably struggles with until this day. Now, that was in the 60's so the chemicals in them might have changed since then. I would just be careful and as soon as you know your pregnant stop and hopefully it hasn't had anytime for any negative effects.

There's a chance yes cause the birth control is built just to prevent that very thing but doesnt automatically mean that.
