when should I worry?

I'm only 20 years old and am no where near ready for a baby. I was wondering when pregnancy symptoms first start to happen and how soon I can take a pregnancy test? I have irregular periods so the "test around the time of your next missed period" rule doesn't apply to me. Thoughts and personal experience from you guys would be very helpful!! Thank you!

I'm 19 and think I am too.. Its frustrating bc most of the symptoms go hand in hand with pmsing so I am currently waiting to find out

The onset of symptoms varies from person to person as much as what symptoms you may experience. Some women may experience symptoms as early as 3 or 4 weeks into gestation, but many women mistake these for PMS or other things, like the fatigue or nausea, etc. Generally speaking, most pregnancy tests are designed to pick up the levels of HCG after about 2-3 weeks following fertilization. Testing when a period is due or the week following is a general rule because that's the 2-3 week timeline most women will test positive. Some may test positive earlier, some may not see results till a little later. However, if you have an idea of when you ovulated, which is typically 2 weeks after your period, then testing 2-3 weeks later is recommended. If you test and get a negative result, but still think you may be pregnant and are otherwise not having a period, test again in a week. That's my advice but a doctor may have more information

My periods are also irregular as well. Every couple months it would change on me especially after being on birth control for so long. I had a period in August, lasted one day. September I had one for 8 days. I am currently in the waiting game as well considering I'm on cycle day 43 and nothing. I've tested twice and negative and waiting to test again. I have two kids and I'm almost 21.
