what is the point of breast milk stashes??

Question

I'm not knocking anybody who has them...i just genuinely don't understand why people have such large stashes.
I'm a SAH mom so I can breast feed at will. I pump and store enough for her to drink if I am away from her for a couple hours, or if I want to have a drink or two.
I know some mom's work and need milk for baby...but that's still a relatively small amount compared to the stashes I'm talking about.

But why have hundreds of bags of milk frozen and squireled away?

My friend was a stay at home mom. Her supply rocked and her baby was 10 pounds when he was born. At 2 weeks he had a growth spurt and ate so much that she couldn't keep up. He drained her entire stash too.

I work so in guess that's why I will stock up.. also I am a realist, I may die unexpectedly and my husband not know the first thing about breast milk donors .. maybe that will give him time to figure it out .

I worked at a daycare and moms would bring in gallons of milk that we would store frozen. They pumped most of it while on maternity leave so they wouldn't be stressed about it when they went back to work. We had some babies that would drink over 40 oz a day so their moms had to be way ahead of the game.

Some moms exclusively pump, some donate and some stop nursing at some point and still have enough stocked up to get their baby to a year.

Because you could dry up and you still want your child to have breast milk for as long as possible.
