Suicide and periods

My stepfather committed suicide a week ago, and I was on my period. It stopped shortly after I got the news, but I had only been on my period for three days. I tend to be a solid 7-day kinda girl, so this is VERY unusual. Is it possible for something that stressful to stop a period dead in its tracks? What's going on with my body??
