Off birth control

Ever since my period started (15 years old) it has been completely irregular to a point of it coming every week and staying for 4-5 days. So I left for basic training for the army and then everything went bazaar. I had it for a month straight. Now that I am engaged I feel like I should be completely off birth control to get it completely out of my system before I get married. What are your thoughts??
