pregnancy and TDAP vax?

This is my second pregnancy, and I guess now we are encouraged to get the tdap vaccine. I asked my doctor why, I didn't have to with my son 5 years ago. He basically said bc of all the anti vaxers whooping cough among other things are coming back! 😡 I can't help but be annoyed! Has anyone else had a doctor recommend this? I have mine scheduled in 2 weeks...

The problem now is that adults are now getting and carrying whooping cough, so it's not just a kid sickness anymore.

It's not a requirement as in you absolutely have to. No Doctor can force you to take a vaccine. But they recommend it because it's honestly what's best for baby. A baby doesn't have an immune system built up enough for when they're born so any little germ can cause a serious life threatening illness for them. They're little bodies can handle being sick as such a young age. I received mine a week after my flu shot and only reaction i had was a knot and bruise from the injection. My babies life is worth more than any shots I have to take. When he's born (9 days left), People will be limited to who can hold him at first and if they're allowed, they will need to sanitize their hands every time. If they have a cough or any signs of illness, they will be restricted until they're healthy again. I'm a nurse so they cant get anything past me if they're sick lol

I had mine done at the same time as my flu shot. I was 32 weeks.

I had it done this pregnancy (currently 31 weeks) & my last two, those were 7 & 5 years ago!

Just as an FYI, we had a local pertussis outbreak in May and June...among teenagers and their families.  It's deadly for newborns and infants.  The violent cough can cause bleeding behind the eyes and in the brain.

Do your own research and do what's best for you.

This was not a recommendation here when my daughter was born in 2010 but started getting recommended to parents around 2011-2012.

Yep I had mine at 36 weeks. It should also help protect the baby. All was fine my arm was a little sore. It's very annoying that these diseases are coming back. I actually didn't realize you were supposed to get a booster every 10 years and my last ones were when I was 16 and I'm 31 now... oops! I'm not an anti vaxer I just didn't know!

I won't be doing the flu vaccine however I will be getting the TDap. I live in WI and whooping cough is always around here. My In laws husband kids mother and my brother will also need to get it.

Oh yeah my OB as well as my GP strongly suggested it because of the effing anti-vaxxers causing it all to start coming up more frequently. I got it along with my flu shot and have been fine since.

Yeah I had mine done at 34 weeks, the same time I got my flu shot. It was just fine, there have been no repercussions in my pregnancy. My little girl is still moving and wiggling her heart is ok. I'm happy I got it so I can protect her as best as possible.
