My SO has a cat is it safe for a newborn to be around one?

I hate the cat i wish he would get rid of him but he wont! Im not even bringing my furniture into our house cause he loves to scratch furniture and im not having my chair tore up.

I have 3 and they aren't going anywhere when the baby is born. Everbody should have a cat. They are awesome!

I really don't understand why some people feel as if cats or any other animal is something you can just "dispose" of like an old toy or furniture.

Completely safe. I loved the kitten my mom got when I was a baby we grew up together and I was heartbroken when he had to be put down due to multi organ system failure in his old age. He was the best cat.

Obviously a lot of cat lover on this thread lol.  I am an animal lover too but every cat is different...  I've had cats that were sweet and loving like a dog, a cat that couldn't care less about people and preferred exploring all day, and I've had a crazy ass cat who would act like it wanted love but bite the shit out of anyone that touched it.  Just be vigilant in the beginning and make sure the cat doesn't try to bite or scratch baby.  It's hard to train a cat...  I feel if it showed any signs of hurting the baby you'd be justified in getting rid of it 😥

My daughter has been around cats her whole life. Waldo (my hubby's cat he got after college) is 8 years old. He was never around kids, so he didn't interact with her much (but she loves him!). He is coming around to her now that she is a little older (almost 18 months). Endor is 1,we got him to grow up with Emersyn. He is great with her! And Tiger is 13,we just took him from our father in law. He has never been around small kids, but he is an awesome and sweet old man.

Totally safe! I had a cat my whole life & with my last baby, i stayed with my boyfriend in his room & his parents didnt like me having my cat inside.... so i kept her in the room with us. Nothing happend, my son loved the cat & i heard it helps babys immune system get stronger.
