NATIVE AMERICAN HALLOWEEN COSTUMES?

Renay

I've been watching Buzzed YouTube videos on how Native American Halloween costumes and mascots can be sort of racist.

I always saw the costumes and mascots as beautiful women and strong male warriors. On other hand the tribal paint, feathers and jewelry on costumes aren't always accurate with the actual cultural traditions. Not to mention the males are almost always portrayed with red skin and some kind of weapon like a bow and arrow.

I think about how there aren't costumes or mascot of black people with guns and gold chains and other offensive things of that nature. I'd probably lose my shit if I saw that being sold in Halloween stores! BUT there are costumes of Mexicans with alcohol and ponchos and etc. I have Mexican friends and their families buy those costumes and think they're hilarious.

I'm conflicted because I see how it's wrong and how it can be a joke at times. I just wanted to know how others felt about the matter.

PLEASE COMMENT YOUR OPINIONS ☺ I'm extremely curious.
