How do you know its a contraction?

Im having tight-ish pains but im not sure if its just my baby moving or if its an actual contraction? I have no idea what to expect and feel like its just the baby possibly kicking. They are coming and going about every 10 minutes or so...im 38 + 3

My Dr said that it will get to a point where I have to stop talking/walking etc and concentrate when it happens. Otherwise it's early on or Braxton hicks. This was after I went to get checked because I was feeling what you are and I just didn't know.

For me they feel like bad period cramps on steriods. Lol.

I had bad period cramp like pain along with tightening and it was really consistent like 2 minutes apart lasting about a minute or 2 long at a time some longer then they went to really hard and fast but that was active labor also this is weird but my cervix was pulsing like I could feel myself dialate it was weird feeling and uncomfortable at the same time

You won't be able to think about anything else but the contraction when it happens. You will only be able to concentrate on breathing. That's the main thing. Then as time goes on they get stronger and more painful.
