How can you tell if you're having back labor or just back pain because my lower back has been killing me 😩

With my first pregnancy even while I was in full blown labor I never really felt contractions other than some light "period cramps" everything was in my back and it just felt like I needed to pop my back or something and then it would feel like I had been sitting on bleachers for hours at a time like my butt was asleep or something.
