my bf slapped my face

My bf slapped my face today because I got lotion on the bed. He never hit me before. When he did this, I ran downstairs to the basement and cried. He followed me and tried to explain how it was my fault. I just begged for him to go away and eventually he did. I think I gotta move out but I have a lot of bills in my name and I can't leave right away. He called me a little while ago (he went to work) and I told him he's wrong for what he did and he says he has to control me WTF
