Not very effective. It definitely wouldn't be a method I would turn to if I didn't want to get pregnant.

In my last long term relationship, we were actively having sex multiple times a week for about two years and used the withdrawal method each time. It's not safe and no longer practice it. Make sure he pees before to get rid of any sperm that may still be in his urethra, if pure going to do it. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're willing to deal with an unwanted pregnancy
