Taboo Tuesdays: Have you ever had a sexually transmitted disease?

Question

A leading cause of infertility in both men and women is sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) — particularly chlamydia and gonorrhea. If untreated — and many infected women have no symptoms — scarring or damage of the fallopian tubes may cause infertility. In men, an STD can lead to scarring and blockage of the ejaculatory ducts and other reproductive structures, thereby causing infertility.

Please comment if you have ever had an STD or are dealing with it now.

I had some pretty crazy/explorative college years, and that behavior led to getting chlamydia a couple times. Nothing a trip to the clinic couldn't handle... but then, a few years ago, when I was 20 (so still relatively young), a particularly nefarious ex gave me herpes. Though it was a tough lesson to learn, it was the proof I needed/had been denying that he was cheating on me.

The only good that came out of me catching herpes was that years later, the man who would become my husband confessed to me (we were still only in our flirting/getting to know each other stage) that he had contracted herpes from the woman he was seeing before me, and that he wanted to let me know before we got any further into a relationship. He was so happy to here that I had it too. Strange and kinda fucked up, I know, but that's my story.

Best advice to women if you have different partners always go for a check up, if you believe your partner is a cheat, get a check up. You won't always have symptoms so best to be on safe side. I've never had an sti/std but I have regular check ups xx

My best freind is 26, young free and single and "enjoys a adventuresome sex life" (how she puts it lol) but she uses a condom and is also on the pil. She has an sti/Std test before each new partner and one after each partner and has a full sexual health check every 6 months and has done this since she was 18 and has never had an sti or std.

safe sex is a must.

My fiancé cheated on me about 4 yrs ago. And he told me that the girl he cheated with gave him chlamydia and I should go get tested. That was probably the absolute worst day of my life. I got tested immediately and started taking the meds the same day. Because the doctor prescribed the medication to me as if I did have it. And like a week later (give or take a few days) the results came back positive.

I had Camydia before I got married- showed now symptoms what so ever. I had it for a good 6-8 months for sure without treating it. Took a very strong antibiotic, cleared it up and we've both been STD free since.

Very scary to think it could of given me PID- been to many docs and they all say I show no signs of PID but it still worrys me that it could of done some damaging without knowing- I have a very high pain tolerance and I personally don't know if my body would  recognize it as pain or what...

my fiancé and i just recently found out we both have herpes. we're not sure who gave it to who as we were both very...active...before we starting dating. 
it's so very common i don't understand how it's incurable but we're both starting medication soon to make it more manageable.

Sadly...yes. Diagnosed with hsv 2(herpes) on November 5th 2012. Bf at the time didn't tell me.. After this has already happened his best friend told me that i made his 36th girl he slept with. If only i would have known that before.

My ex husband gave me chlamydia when I was 5 months pregnant with our daughter. It was awful because I knew he has cheated, but I was 18 and terrified of having a baby alone. So I stayed... it was the first of many times he cheated.

Ugh, sadly yes. Tested positive for herpes after breakup with my partner of 4 years. Worst day of my life and he would have never told me if I didn't have mutual friends that let me know he had it before my symptoms showed.

I get checked once a year. Have been with the same man for 7 years now. I trust him but I've trusted before so I do it as a precaution. I have also had a renal transplant and they did extensive tests on std's and other diseases. I can positively say I don't have anything sexually transmitted.
