Hospital is 45 mins away...when should I go?

Question

I'm a FTM at 39 weeks and 2 days. I've been having more regular contractions but have had trouble timing them because it's hard to figure out where they start and stop...sometimes they seem to go on for a while, other times they go away as soon as I move around. I don't think I've lost my mucus plug and my waters haven't broken.

My doctor recommends that I labor at home as long as possible but my hospital is 45 minutes away. Since we don't have a car, we will have to take a taxi. I know that every labor is different but I'm worried I will wait too long or not really know when to go...

My questions is..at what point would you go to the hospital?

That's so tricky because everyone labours differently. I live 10 mins away from my hospital so I went as late as possible and my contractions were 2 mins apart. It was the worst sitting in the car through contractions!! Once I got to the hospital I had her within 2 hours so it was pretty fast. If I were you I would go when your contractions are 5/6 mins apart because it could go pretty fast after that!

I was a FTM and had to take a cab in the snow so it took about 20 mins but I labored at home for about 12 hours and should have waited longer. My contractions we about 2-3 mins apart but closer to three. I was just ready to get to the hospital and be where I was going to have her. I would wait if you can. When you get to the hospital, they will make you lay flat in triage for at least 20 mins to observe baby. That was torture! At that moment I wished I was still at home laboring in my own bed!

I was the same way with my first I couldn't really tell so my SO kept saying let's just go in and I kept saying no lol they just gonna send me home and louse we were like a good 30 mins from the hospital but I ended up going and found out I was 5 cmdialated

I have no idea as I'm a FTM. But I love about 1.5 hours away from my hospital and my OB told me to go when my contractions are 5-10 min apart. You might be fine if they are 5 min... but I'd double check with your OB

That is so tough, I'd go as soon as the pain is unbearable and you'll know when that is. Good job I'm only 5 minutes away or I wouldn't of made it! I was only there an hour before #2 and 30 mins with #3 lol x
