Is the woman the backbone of the family?

Who do you think hold the family together. I mean in a 2 parent home with both the mother and father (or mother figure and father figure for same sex marriage...idk how thhat works. I'm trying to be pc and failing). Women tend to do a lot of the work, cooking and cleaning and caring for the children while also often holding a job and maintaining the emotional support of everyone (especially the dad, because they tend to ALWAYS have some reason to be upset. ) Fathers, tend to be the protective type and in some household also cook and clean and do most of the earning. So, in your opinion, does the mother or father hold provide the backbone for the family. (If you can't tell by my obvious bias..I think it's the mother).
