We say it all the time, even if we're mad at each other. My husband and I were best friends before we got married. It took us 8 yrs to tell each other how we felt about one another, I was the first one to say I love you. And while I wasn't expecting him to say it back while on the phone, we hung up, he called me back and asked me what I had said. I said it again, then he told me he loved me too. We dated off and on for 5 yrs been married for a yr and nearly 6 months. I tell him all the time in a text message that I love him to the moon and back. We used to say Forever and Ever babe. We say I love you in so many different ways now. I couldn't imagine a day going by and neither of us saying I love you. If one of us doesn't say it, then we ask if something is wrong.

We say it 24/7.

We say it every day. Not in a creepy, obsessed way but usually before we fall asleep. 

We had a fight where we only said our good morning's and good night's for about 4 days.. But we STILL said I love you every morning and every night. An "I love you" isn't optional. It's important in a relationship.
