Pot luck baby shower tacky?

We are having over 100 people come and I'm loosing my mind trying to get everything together.

Mil is bringing ham, Gmil is making beef sandwiches, and was wondering if asking people to bring a dish or side is tacky.

And no,  can't slim it down, he's got a huge ass Jewish family that 8th cousin's twice removed think it's ok to kiss my belly lol

Personally I wouldn't do it. You want people to bring gift for the baby and now also food? Yeah, no. 👎

Instead of asking everyone to bring a side dish, could you maybe ask other close family members (sisters, really close friends, ect) to help with food? It might be a more comfortable situation for you and the guests, and if 100 people ALL bring a side dish youre going to have WAY too much food.

What about not having it be a meal-type event at all? You could have it in the afternoon & just have drinks + chips/salsa or veggies/dip for snacking. :)

My family would offer to help even without me asking....I would just put out the word out that you wouldn't say not if people offered to make things, and you can ask some that you know would be willing to help. I always tell people who make things (like for my wedding) that I do NOT want a gift from them. That way, I don't look greedy. I was actually upset that people who made food for our  wedding still gave us money because I felt bad.

We did a potluck for my wedding. It turns out my church made all the food. We didn't get many presents at the actual wedding, which is fine.

Depends on how your relationship is with everyone and their willingness to do it. For my wedding we spent far less than 100$ and that was only because we had such a supportive and willing to help group of people who pretty much insisted. They helped with food, set up, clean up, decorations, pictures, hair and make up, our first night in a hotel as a married. Everything! I never felt like it was tacky because they all genuinely wanted to help and be involved.

Ehhhhh......I mean, the point of a baby shower is basically to get free baby stuff from your friends. It's kinda rude to ask them to not only spend $50+ on a gift, but to also have to plan a dish to bring

Just have it caterered. I would never ask my guests to bring food to a party they were invited too. On top of that gifts 🙄

With that many people...um I don't see the problem in asking for a small side dish or appetizer. It's very different than the usual baby shower...but if it works go for it :) Don't stress...ppl should cater to YOU. :)
